IMF head Lagarde to face French trial over Tapie affair

accused of negligence over €400m payout to businessman Bernard Tapie, who supported in 2007 presidential race

Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund, is to go on trial in over a multimillion-euro payment seven years ago to a businessman supporter of the former president Nicolas Sarkozy.

Lagarde has been accused of “negligence by a person in a position of public authority” over the compensation award to Bernard Tapie, who supported Sarkozy in the 2007 presidential election.
